As we enter the season of giving, donating time, funds, or goods to charity should be top of mind. Two charities that I regularly donate to are Miranda’s Mission and Five Foundation at a Glance. Supporting exceptional causes with local ties, it is an honor to contribute to them both.
Miranda’s Mission is a local charity that is near and dear to my heart. Miranda was born with an extremely rare genetic disease called “WAGR Syndrome” in December 2013, causing her to be legally blind along with a lifelong battle of various other health and development impairments. Due to her WAGR Syndrome diagnosis, Miranda is at high risk for developing cancer in her kidneys, developing significant eye defects, and could face an array of reproductive and developmental complications. With under 450 known cases worldwide, there is currently not a known cure for WAGR. As a result of the small number of known people suffering from this horrific disease, Miranda’s Mission main objectives are to bring awareness to WAGR Syndrome and fund much needed research objectives to find a cure.
On Saturday, November 6th, Miranda’s Mission hosted a Designer Bag Bingo event at William Penn Fire Hall. There were ten games of bingo played with opportunities to purchase raffle tickets for gift baskets, 50/50 drawings, and door prizes. As a proud sponsor of this event, it was an honor to support the incredible foundation of Miranda’s Mission at this fun filled event!
Saturday, November 13th is National WAGR Awareness Day! The fifth annual celebration of National WAGR Awareness Day is the International WAGR Syndrome Association’s largest fundraiser of the year. The Five Foundation at a Glance was established in July 2019 as a memorial foundation for Captain Connor J Bednarzyk. Captain Bednarzyk was a Bucks County native, receiving his education and participating in youth sports in the Central Bucks School District. He was unfortunately killed in the course of a training mission in Fort Benning, Georgia on September 7, 2018. The primary objective of the the Five Foundation at a Glance Foundation is to aid those including, but not limited to, those who will serve, are currently serving, or have served our Country by enlisting in the U.S. Armed Forces. Other key deliverables of the foundation include the application of programs, projects, and strategies to provide high school scholarships and grants to other nonprofit corporations aiding veterans with PTSD, and offer support to those participating in Ranger Training Phases.
On Sunday, November 14th @ 7:30am the Five Foundation at a Glance is hosting a “5 for 22” Veteran’s Day 22 Mile Ruck in Doylestown, PA. The money raised at this event will go towards services for veterans experiencing PTSD and suicidal thoughts. Register as an individual or gather a team for the ruck here. I hope as you read through this blog, you are inspired to donate to an organization you feel passionate about during this giving season. Remember, not all charity needs to be in the form of money. Time, goods, or services mean just as much to those who are in need of help. If you are interested in being involved in either of the charities above, please feel free to contact me at any time.
